The Columbus Blue Jackets stormed past the Pittsburgh Penguins, 6-1, Wednesday night.

Columbus posted a 3-1 lead over the Penguins at the first intermission.

Rick Nash scored 10 seconds into the game. Goaltender Dany Sabourin, making his Pittsburgh debut, came out to play the puck. However, Sabourin's clearing attempt deflected off Sergei Fedorov. He slipped the puck over to Nash, who one-timed it into the goal. It was the fastest goal to start a game in Blue Jackets history.

David Vyborny gave the Blue Jackets at 2-0 lead four seconds after a Columbus penalty expired. On a two-on-one with Jan Hrdina, Vyborny got the puck and roofed it past Sabourin.

Ryan Malone scored on a rebound at 7:48 to cut the Penguins' deficit to 2-1. Tomas Surovy's shot deflected off Pascal Leclaire and Malone slammed it in the net. Ziggy Palffy earned the other assist.

Nikolai Zherdev made it 3-1 with a power-play goal with 7:10 remaining in the period. He one-timed Nash's cross-crease pass into the net.

Jaroslav Balastik backhanded a power-play goal 40 seconds into the second period. Marc-Andre Fleury replaced Sabourin following the goal.

Balastik scored again for the Blue Jackets at 6:13. After his penalty expired, he came out of the penalty box and went on a breakaway. He beat Fleury for a 5-1 edge.

Fedorov pushed the Columbus lead to 6-1 just 23 seconds later when he broke in on Fleury and slipped the puck into the net.

The Penguins return to action Friday in Chicago.
