FSN Pittsburgh hockey analyst Bob Errey will call the action from “between the benches” when the Pittsburgh Penguins take on the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday at Mellon Arena (7:30 p.m.).

The broadcasting innovation is a joint effort of the Penguins and FSN Pittsburgh. Errey will be stationed at ice level, in an area between the home and visiting benches that usually serves as a camera position for FSN. Hall of Fame play-by-play broadcaster Mike Lange will call the game from his regular post in the press box.

“FSN Pittsburgh is always looking for new and innovative ways to bring the game ‘closer’ to the fans, and we both think that putting Bob at ice level, between the benches, will enable him to provide unique perspective and insight,” said Tom McMillan, the Penguins’ vice president of communications. “Mike will still have the overall view of the game from the press box, but Bob will literally be right on top of the action.”

As always, “Savran on Sportsbeat” will precede the Penguins’ game broadcast Tuesday on FSN Pittsburgh.
