PENS FANS CONTINUE TO LEAD NHL IN INCREASED ATTENDANCE

The NHL’s return has generated plenty of excitement and fans have flocked to the league’s arenas.

The biggest increase is right here in Pittsburgh as the Penguins have led the league in increased attendance for the season’s first two months.

“The support our fans have shown since the start of the season has been overwhelming,” said Dave Soltesz, Penguins vice president of sales and marketing. “We’ve known all along that Pittsburgh was a great hockey town, but our fans have put an exclamation point on that statement this season. As an organization, we are very grateful for their support.”

Through the Penguins’ first 17 home games, the team has drawn 274,150 fans to Mellon Arena for a 16,126 average. In addition, 12 of the games saw crowds over 16,000 with six sellouts.

The Penguins play a three-game home holiday stretch starting on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against Toronto. New Jersey pays a visit on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Penguins close out 2005 on Dec. 31 with a 1 p.m. home game against the New York Rangers.

Less than 1,000 tickets remain for each of the three games. For tickets call 1-800-642-PENS or 412-642-PENS or visit pittsburghpenguins.com.
