PITTSBURGH, October 28, 2005—The Pittsburgh Penguins have given local hockey fans five great reasons to support Operation Warm:  by going on-line at the Pens Web site and donating a winter coat to a needy youngster, fans become eligible for a Thanksgiving weekend drawing that will win for five lucky Pens fans a regulation Mario Lemieux replica jersey.

“Thanks to the generous support we’ve received from Pittsburgh’s corporate community, we’re already committed to helping more than 4,000 area youngsters who need winter coats,” said Wendy Leslie, Executive Director of Operation Warm.   “The help we’re receiving from Pens fans will make it possible for us to provide even more coats to kids in the Pittsburgh area.”

Pens fans who click onto PittsburghPenguins.com will see an Operation Warm link that enables them to donate a winter coat to a local youngster.  Five lucky contributors who donate via the Pens’ Web site will be chosen at random during the Thanksgiving Day weekend to receive a regulation Mario Lemieux replica jersey.  Mellon volunteers will be collecting Operation Warm donations at the Mellon Arena during the Pens’ Saturday games on October 29 and November 12, 19, and 22.

A non-profit organization founded seven years ago to provide winter coats for needy children in a single Philadelphia-area community, Operation Warm has grown dramatically in recent years, with the program hoping to distribute upwards of 100,000 coats in more than 30 states this year.  Mellon Financial Corporation is coordinating the local efforts of a large group of corporate Operation Warm supporters, including American Eagle, Bayer Corporation, Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, Dominion Energy, Duquesne Light Company, Heritage Health Foundation, Highmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, H.J. Heinz Company, Post-Gazette Charities, Sunoco, and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

There are two easy ways for Penguins fans to express their generosity:
