MALONE SKATES AT U.S. OLYMPIC CAMP

Penguins forward Ryan Malone is one of 39 players participating in the U.S. Olympic Hockey Orientation Camp this week at Colorado Springs.

Malone and his teammates hit the ice for the first time Tuesday. The Pittsburgh area native skated in a group with Mike Modano, Keith Tkachuk, Bill Guerin and others.

Malone, 25, was a member of the NHL All-Rookie Team in 2003-04, when he scored 22 goals and 43 points in 81 games for the Penguins. He also played for the U.S. at the 2004 World Championships.

Malone played high school hockey at Upper St. Clair before heading on to United States Hockey League and St. Cloud State University.

This is the third time that NHL players will participate in the Olympic Games. The Olympic hockey tournament will be held February 10-26 in Torin, Italy.

The team USA Orientation Camp rosters (players divided into two groups for practice):

Group 1

Forwards: Jason Blake, Dustin Brown, Erik Cole, Matt Cullen, Scott Gomez, Chris Higgins, Mike Knuble, Steve Konowalchuk, Richard Park, Mark Parrish, Brian Rolston, Doug Weight.

Defensemen: Bryan Berard, Mark Eaton, Tim Gleason, Derian Hatcher, Jordan Leopold, John-Michael Liles, Aaron Miller, Brian Pothier.

Goaltenders: Ty Conklin, Rick DiPietro.

Group 2

Forwards: Chris Drury, Brian Gionta, Bill Guerin, Jeff Halpern, Ryan Kesler, Ryan Malone, Mike Modano, Zach Parise, Keith Tkachuk.

Defensemen: Hal Gill, Paul Martin, Brian Rafalski, Andy Roach, Ryan Suter, David Tanabe.

Goaltenders: Robert Esche, Ryan Miller.
