Penguins Report: Fleury Injured; Will Miss Tuesday's Game

By Sam Kasan
Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury suffered an undisclosed injury and did not attend Pittsburgh's practice on Monday. He is listed as day-to-day and will not play against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday night at Mellon Arena at 7 p.m.

"He's not going to play (Tuesday)," head coach Michel Therrien said. "It's not a major injury but we don't want to take any risks. That's why we want to be really cautious with his injury."

Therrien confirmed that Fleury suffered the injury late in Saturday's game against the Buffalo Sabres. Fleury still played the entire game.

If he isn't healthy enough to backup Dany Sabourin on Tuesday night then the Penguins will re-call a goalie from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

I'm sure it's going to take a few games but I'm ready to go. - Philippe Boucher
> Defenseman Philippe Boucher practiced for the first time with Pittsburgh on Monday. The veteran, who was acquired on Sunday in a trade with Dallas in exchange for Darryl Sydor, skated with several different defensive partners during the practice session.

"It's exciting," said Boucher, who will wear No. 43 with Pittsburgh. "I was glad I could come in last night and be with the guys today. The last 48 hours have been hard on the family but we're all excited to be a part of the Penguins now."

At 35 years old, Boucher will be the oldest Penguin in the locker room and brings with him 723 career games in the NHL in over 14 seasons.

"He brings a lot of experience," Rob Scuderi said. "He brings a real heavy shot on the power play from the point in general. I think he's a nice addition to our team."

Boucher will join Kris Letang as the only right-handed defensemen to play on the Penguins blue line.

"We have another right-handed (shooting) defenseman; they're very rare in the NHL," Therrien said. "Two years ago he was one of the best defensemen in the league. (He's) gonna help the power play. He's good on both sides of the ice.  I believe it's a good addition to the club."

There will be an adjustment period for Boucher. He's learning a new system, new teammates and a new city.

"I've heard a lot of good things about this group," Boucher said. "They made me feel real comfortable. I'm sure it's going to take a few games but I'm ready to go."

Defenseman Hal Gill can empathize with Boucher. He was acquired last season from Toronto in February.

"It took me about five games to pick up what we were doing and get the timing down," Gill said.

A new team and city will also give Boucher a fresh start.

"In my mind, there was no better place than here to come," Boucher said. "I'm excited. The family's excited. My son has been watching the Penguins for a long time. He's fired up. He wants to come watch some games. Hopefully, I can get him down here."

Boucher doesn't have to worry about getting his son Matthew, 10, a Penguins jersey though.

"He's got an All-Star jersey," Boucher said. "He's got a (Evgeni) Malkin and a (Sidney) Crosby in his room."

> With Fleury unable to practice, the Penguins tapped Joe Tuset of Robert Morris to be his replacement during the session.

"My boss gave me a call and said the Penguins were looking for a goalie for practice," Tuset said. "He called and asked if I would be willing to do it. I said absolutely. It's a great opportunity to come out here and skate with these professionals and strap on the pads again."

Tuset is an assistant coach/goaltending coach at Robert Morris, as well as an alum.

"(I did) better than I thought I would," Tuset said. "Still not good enough but it was fun."
