By Sam Kasan
Sidney Crosby will play against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night despite suffering an undisclosed injury  two days ago.

Crosby left Pittsburgh's matchup on Thursday against the Phoenix Coyotes after two shifts in the third period when he felt "discomfort." He did not return in that game and was listed as day-to-day.

Crosby had a chance to rest on Friday because the Penguins did not practice.

> Ruslan Fedotenko skated off the ice in the middle of the Penguins morning skate with an undisclosed injury. He will be scratched for Saturday night's game and has been listed as day-to-day.

Pascal Dupuis was placed on the injured-reserve list with an undisclosed injury. Dupuis' IR status will be retroactive to Oct. 28 against San Jose. He is eligible to return to the Penguins next Thursday against the Edmonton Oilers.

> With the extra roster spot the Penguins recalled forward Janne Pesonen, who has nine points (2G-7A) in nine games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Pesonen will make his NHL debut Saturday night against St. Louis. He will be on a line with Evgeni Malkin and Petr Sykora.

The Malkin line is the only confirmed line combination. With Fedotenko's injury and Crosby's late green light, head coach Michel Therrien juggled his combinations in practice.

> Darryl Sydor will be in the lineup for the Penguins defense. Mark Eaton will miss his first game of the season as a healthy scratch. The defensive pairings in practice were: Brooks Orpik-Kris Letang; Hal Gill-Rob Scuderi; Darryl Sydor-Alex Goligoski.

> Therrien officially named Scuderi and Gill as the Penguins alternate captains for the month of November. Therrien notified the defensemen at the team's morning skate. He said in the beginning of the season that he will rotate the alternate captaincy each month. Malkin and Orpik were alternate captains for the month of October.
