Penguins center Joe Vitale was at the team’s Tuesday practice at CONSOL Energy Center sporting a nice purple mark on his nose.
Vitale squared off with Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski late in the third period of Sunday’s preseason contest. After the bout, Vitale left the game and did not return for the overtime session.
But Vitale said it’s all good.
“Everything is fine, I was good after the game,” said Vitale, who noted that he isn’t having any issues breathing.
Even though his nose was a nice shade of purple, Vitale had a good sense of humor about it.
“It’s always been kind of crooked,” he joked. “I think it’s a little bruised. Hopefully, it will straighten it out.”
BABY ON BOARD
Winger Matt D’Agostini is a new addition to the Penguins family. Now there is a new addition to the D’Agostini family.
D’Agostini missed Monday’s preseason game because his wife, ToniLynn, went into labor. The happy couple have a new baby boy – Lucca Jacob.
Congratulations mommy and daddy.
Dea was in training camp on an amateur tryout contract, but impressed the coaches so much from the rookie tournament in London, Ontario and his play at camp that they signed him to a contarat.
Dea is a highly skilled forward that can finish. He’ll head back to his junior team, Rouyn-Noranda of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he scored 45 goals and 85 points in 68 games.
Dea will be looking to add size to his 5-foot-11, 176-pound frame. But he’s only 19 years old, plenty of time to bulk up. Anybody can add size. You can’t add skill, and that’s what Dea possesses.
