With less than a minute left in the second period of Tuesday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens at CONSOL Energy Center, Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury made the initial stop on a shot and was crouched down trying to collect the puck when Tyler Kennedy and Brian Gionta got tangled up and crashed into him.

Fleury stayed down for a while, with Penguins athletic trainer Chris Stewart coming out to check on him. Fleury was able to finish the period but did not return for the third, being replaced in goal by Tomas Vokoun.

After the game, head coach Dan Bylsma provided an update on Fleury, saying, “In terms of Marc-Andre Fleury, obviously just in between periods (he) wasn't able to go back out. Tomas went in for him there. (Fleury) is going to continue to be evaluated going forward. Maybe have more for you about his injury later as he gets evaluated. I don't have anything for you right now in terms of length of his injury."

Bylsma said the short amount of time remaining in the period did not have an effect on Fleury staying in the game, saying, “We went out there, our trainer talked to Marc and he was fine to return to the game. It really didn’t have a bearing that there was only 49 seconds.”
