The Olympic semifinals were held today with a spot in the Gold Medal Game on the line. In the morning Sweden topped Finland, 2-1, to make their first appearance in the GMG since winning gold in 2006. In the afternoon contest Canada bested the United States, 1-0, for the right to defend their title from the 2010 Games.

BRONZE GAME
United States vs. Finland, Saturday, 10 a.m.

GOLD MEDAL GAME
Sweden vs. Canada, Sunday, 7 a.m.

CANADA 1, UNITED STATES 0
The United States entered the semifinals as the highest scoring team in the Olympic tournament. But it was the Carey Price show as he stopped all 31 shots he faced for a shutout as Canada topped the US, 1-0, to advance to the Gold Medal Game for the second straight Olympics.

The only goal of the game came 1:41 minutes into the second period. Jay Bouwmeester's shot from the point was re-directed by Jamie Benn at the top of the crease to give Canada the only goal it needed in the win.

Chris Kunitz had one shot and nearly poked in his own rebound, lifting it just wide of the post. Sidney Crosby had four shots in the contest.

Jonathan Quick was the best player for the United States and kept the game close while under heavy pressure. He made 36 saves in the contest. Paul Martin did not play in the contest, instead watching from the stands with a cast on his hand.

SWEDEN 2, FINLAND 1
Defenseman Erik Karlsson scored the game-winning goal late in the second period on the power play to lift Sweden past Finland, 2-1, and into the Gold Medal Game on Sunday. All three of the game's goals came in the second period. Olli Jokinen opened the scoring for Finland when he sneaked a shot in from the side of the post on goalie Henrik Lundqvist. The Swedes came back with goals from Loui Eriksson and Karlsson. Lundqvist made 25 saves, including eight in the third period, to help Sweden return to the Gold Medal Game for the first time since capturing gold in 2006.

Olli Maatta finished the game with four shots while Jussi Jokinen posted one shot. Finland will play Saturday in the bronze medal game.
