I’m sure you are just as excited as we are to have returned to Consol Energy Center for the 2013-2014 Pittsburgh Penguins hockey season! To kick off the Ice Crew’s first blog post of the new hockey year, we will be sharing some of our memorable “firsts” from the summer to pre-season!

It’s that time of year again, only how about making some New Years resolutions that are fun to adhere to? December was full of wonderful skating events for the Ice Crew! I would like to propose an alternative to the traditional New Years resolutions as I reminisce on our exciting end of the year activities.

“I like to move it, move it - you like to move it!” These enthusiastic song lyrics could be heard during “Moving Day,” an inspirational walk held in the North Shore in support of the National Parkinson Foundation. The Ice Crew and Iceburgh had the opportunity to join in on the event by partaking in the warm-up, meeting some of the participants and cheering on the walkers from start to finish.

Excited. Anxious. Nervous. Happy. Eager. Yes, it must be audition season! These adjectives seem to describe the feelings of the contestants while trying out for the 2012-2013 Ice Crew, and certainly represent how I felt while performing for my opportunity to be a member of the Crew for a second year.

We have all heard the proverbial phrase, "All good things must come to an end." As the Pens season reached its climactic finale in April, so did my unforgettable experience as being a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins Ice Crew.

Well, Pens fans, the season didn’t turn out quite the way we’d all hoped for, however, there is still a lot we are grateful for that happened this season. The Penguins will compete for another title just as assuredly as the Ice Crew will return next year to perform their in-game duties. Hello again Pens fans, Daniel here to update you with everything the Ice Crew has been up to since I last posted. All of October has come and gone and we are all in full hockey mode. A few weeks into November, the Penguins are in first place and the Ice Crew is excited to see where this season will take us!

With this season just about underway, we’re concentrating our efforts on getting in shape for the long year ahead. Last practice, Marianne Watkins, a Power Skating coach based out of the RMU Island Sports Center, joined us on the ice to teach us new power move techniques to help us improve our overall speed...
